Back with a Bang!!!!

Hi everybody.....

The Eminence returns.... With a bang!!!! Been a long time since my last post.... around 8 months now!!! Just goes on to show the excitement in life at this point in time... Nothing...absolutely nothing to look forward to!!!
Its marriage season in Delhi and Gurgaon.... and I have been attending marriages for some time now.... And every time I attend a marriage, my faith in myself diminishes by a teeny weeny bit and I start thinking as to where the H#$% am I headed and what am I doing and the most dreaded question...where I see myself in 5 years from now!! During my first job interview, when asked this question, it was a piece of cake as we had rehearsed answers.... but after spending 2 years at work, I think I will still have the need to rehearse answers for these questions, because, simply put... I still dont know... I neither know what i am doing, why I am doing it...and I am trying to find myself in a timeframe 5 years from now!!!

Will keep you posted on where I find myself!!!!

Review - Water

Am back after a long time!!!!

Watched Water over the weekend.... A suggestion before you watch the movie- if you think you are frustrated cos you feel discriminated, pls watch this movie.... It will make you think that you are the luckiest person surviving on this earth and in this country... Based in the early 30's, this movie is about the plight of widows then and also explores the idea of widow remarriage...
Halfway through the movie, you begin to get disoriented because we have been told all through our lives that India had a glorious history etc... but one look at this movie takes you to that medieval era in Indian history which could aptly be termed as 'the Dark Ages' of Indian society...

Performances are outstanding as expected... . Seema Biswas, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Lisa Ray (She looks hot as well!!!), and John Abraham.. all have given good performances that make the movie an all in all good movie which at the end of it makes you sit back and think.... on a lot of things....

Was just wondering, if a movie that got nominated for the Oscars and did not win was so good, how good would the movie that won be??? Leave you to munch on that!!!

Another weekend!!

And hence cometh another Monday!!! And why!?? I do not know!!

Had a pathetic weekend.... Started and ended with India vs Bangladesh on Saturday.... What a disgrace!!!! Pathetic.... It was a naked display of the gross stupidity that the Indian team brings to the table amidst its other capabilities like hypocrisy, idiosnycracy, over confidence and bullshitting!!! A suggestion here... Why not ban the Indian team from all forms of cricket for , say, 10 years..... This would allow stalwarts like Dravid, Sachin and Sehwag to train their sons to come and play for the country!!!!!

To engage myself in other activities, I watched two movies over the weekend,......

The first one on Satuday was '300'.... A great movie on the resistance of a few hundred men to the whole Persian Army..... Was a very well shot movie and had some amazing dialogue delivery and screenplay...... Came to know that the Oracle was a creation of the Spartans and then she was quite young..... Guess that is why she was really old in the Matrix trilogy!!!! :) The only disonnect is that she seemed to change along the way from a blonde to an Afro- American!!!!!

Watched 'The Pursuit of Happiness' on Sunday... Nice movie....A really great performance from Will Smith. He seems to have come along way from Bad Boys!!!

Will signoff now in the hope that India shall beat Bermuda in their encounter today!!! Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Visual DNA

1 year flies by

And hence cometh Wednesday!!!! The middle of the week...... Have you ever wondered why there are 5 working days in a week. Its to ensure that you work 2 days, take a break and work 2 days again.... That is why there are 5 working days!!!!

Yesterday, I was speaking with a couple of friends when suddenly the realisation dawned on us that our juniors from our MBA campus were graduating on 24th March.... And trust me, it hit me pretty hard.... Feels like it was just now that we graduated but its almost a year now!!! A year gone is a year wasted is what people say....... Looking back, I try to think about what all I have done in the past one year..... I was supposed to get 'x' amount of pay/year and at the end of the year I end up with 0.3x.... Dunno where the 0.7 went.... The government took some... I must have spent some...and if indeed I spent so much money, what hits me even harder is that I do not have any assets to account for the capital expenditure made.....

Had only heard and read great people say.... 'Money is never enough'.... Have now lived through it!!!!! Hope Financial year 2007-08 is more easy on the pocket!!!

Dudes and dudettes!!!!Truly money is never enough!!!!

And So I rest my case!!!

Cheapos!!!!

Another Monday at work.... Why can't we have only Fridays at work???..... I wonder

Over the weekend, I was roaming around the malls of the 'Millenium City' as they like to call it with a friend and we happened to cross two stores, a Spencer's outlet and a Big Bazaar outlet.... We decided to enter the Spencer's outlet only to realise that we committed the biggest mistake of a lifetime....

I was watching a video recently by Russell Peters where he makes a statement that 'Indians are cheap'. Now being an Indian, I thought it was all hogwash.... but trust me, when I entered Spencer's supermarket, I understood and realised that yes, we are cheap and we are reallllllllyyyyy cheap!!! Let me start with the entry... There was a single file of people entering in all readiness to empty the store... All wives had successfully convinced/threatened their husbands to bring them here..... As we went along the aisles, it was distressing to see the kind of madness that was on inside.... We happened to cross an aisle where vegetables were being sold... Spencer's had put up a board that onions were available at Rs 9/kilo.... The rush at that particular counter could only be compared to a Tirupati or a Vaishno Devi... It was madness... Moving on, at an aisle further down from the vegetable aisle there were a lot of readymade foods with all kinds of offers on them.... Here again there was a mad rush..... All this madness ended at the checkout line where there was atleast a 10 feet line at every counter (there were 5 in total..) and the saddest part was that you had to stand in th eline even if ou wanted to just leave the place... So both of us stood there like dumbos for abt half an hour before we were able to egt out.. Now this line was like a railway reservation line - the women were trying to surge ahead to form a seperate line.... Kids crying.... Husbands frustrated et al.....

Now comes the best part of the story..... Both of us estimated that atleast 90% of the families there had a combined annual income of atleast 18-20 lakhs.... But still,, everybody wants a discount store!!!!!! People had driven down from 7-8 kms away in their Honda City to buy onions cos they were available at 9/kilo..... Now thats how cheap we can get!!!!

To all those patriotic Indians reading this, believe me, I am also equally patriotic and I love my country for watever it is.... But, WE ARE CHEAP!!! and we need to live with that fact in life!!!!

One more for the Day.... Marriage of the Century

Just another sign of me enjoying my Friday at work....

Was just going through a couple of news articles online..... And guess what is the biggest news in India today?? Arun Nayar getting married to Liz Hurley!!!! Ooooohhhh!! I am so excited!!! So are u attending it??!!! The only thing people seem to be talking about is,'Oh , do u know the marriage is at Jodhpur palace' or' Did u see Liz's latest dress, possibly she is already carrying Arun's child!!!'.... People, cool it!!!!
First of all, somebody please help me understand who is Arun Nayar and why is he being treated like an Aamir Khan here.... All I know is that he is from a rich family.....And wat does he do for a living!???! No clue...... And the response is the same from atleast a dozen other people I have asked.... The other dozen did not care!!!!! And guess what, this unknown guy is on the front page of every newspaper in the country!!!! Whoa!!! Talk about publicity!!!
Being a bachelor, me too planning to get hold of some Hollywood'ian' to hook up to..... Who is single currently.... Help me people..... Thats possibly the last hope for every Indian to be popular....get linked to a Hollywood beauty....
So stay put Julia, Nicole, Salma, Penelope and the rest.... We are comin to get ya!!!!!

The Grand Return

Feels good to get back to the universal hobby of blogging!!!!

My old account Eminence Speaks got blocked and so here I am with a new title and a new place and a new idea and of course new thoughts!!!

I am sitting at work right now and I can see dozens of people sitting in front of their computers and processing invoices, making payments, taking calls and the like.... Hard to think that at their age, me and my generation were preparing for the umpteen hurdles of higher studies a.k.a CAT, XAT and the like!!!!

But is it time that we stop back and think whether this is a very healthy trend in the emerging Indian scenario... We go all over the place harping on the fact that we are a highly skilled soceity... But put in one way, if we are employing close to 3,00,000 skilled people in the industry who are graduates, there will come a time in the near future when the importance of higher education will be lost out on coming generations... And it is a known fact that once a graduate is earning, he would not sacrifice that for a degree!!!! So are we theoritically talking about a lack of skilled/educated manpower in the future.....

So, fellow management graduates..... Stop, think....we have a great future in our scope going forward!!!!

Worth giving a thought??!!!! Sure think so!!

Looking forward to views on this....
